Something happened in Lisbon this morning that made me think about what you told me last week — about the way you said you always choose the window seat, even when you're tired.
I was on the tram, the old one, the 28 that climbs through Graça and shakes itself sideways around every corner. A woman got on with a bunch of flowers wrapped in newspaper — the kind of arrangement nobody buys for themselves — and she held them the way you hold something you're protecting from the rain, except it wasn't raining.
